Sedgwick County deputies delivering 500 food baskets to people who have been identified as needing assistance this holiday season.
The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office Benefit Fund Association collected donations for the 17th annual food basket campaign. Boxes full of food and $15 Dillons gift certificates are given to families in need.
"We only have 500 food baskets that we're going to be able to give out," said Sgt. David Hein, Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office Benefit Fund Association treasurer. "Unfortunately, there's going to be 150 names submitted to us that we won't be able to reach."
About 650 names, including Thomas Armstrong, were submitted to the Benefit Fund.
"We don't really eat a good dinner meal because of the debts. Maybe this will help out. I'm hoping it will and I appreciate it," said Armstrong.
Delivery of food baskets started today and is expected to end on Thursday.
