Sedgwick County Commissioners and staff will be talking about charging taxpayers a fee if they use a credit card to pay their taxes.
County manager Bill Buchanan said each year the county pays about a million dollars to the credit card companies for taxpayers to pay with plastic. Tuesday at a county staff meeting, county leaders will be discussing whether to hand that fee to the public.
Buchanan expects opposition from the public, but says it's expensive to the county. If you pay with cash or check you wouldn't pay the fee.
VISA has said if the county charges taxpayers the fee it will cancel it's contract with the county. It cancelled in Johnson County when leaders there turned the credit card fees over to the public.
The fees would also apply to debit cards.
