The Brookside satellite of the Hunter Health Clinic is expanding its medical services and adding new vision services in Planeview for the new year.
"There is a big lack of services here in Planeview. Some of the people here don't have transportation to get to those services," said Charlie Schwarz, Planeview Transformation Coalition chairman. "To have a facility like this available in Planeview, within walking distance, is key to getting them the best health care available."
Currently, the clinic has two medical exam rooms and a small waiting area. With the expansion, the clinic will have six medical exam rooms and four eye care rooms.
"We've been serving about 2,000 people. We expect to almost immediately double that. Then we'll be able to expand with the vision center and dental, so that we can serve more and more people in this community where the need is just tremendous," said Susette Schwartz, Hunter Health Clinic chief executive officer.
