The start of the New Year is bringing a new look to Wichita and surrounding areas with huge progress on major projects.

It's hard to miss just how fast the arena is sprouting up along Wichita's skyline.

"It's been very much a pleasure to drive by sometimes from one day to the next to see the change," said Assistant Sedgwick County Manager Ron Holt.

Crews are already putting on some of the finishing touches and soon the roof will go on. The outside will be done by the end of the summer. Then the progress won't be as visible as the inside work begins. The county is already starting to work on booking an act for opening day in January 2010.

"It's coming along very very well," said Holt.

Further north, the Hartman Arena is also coming along very well. Looking at the outside can be decieving. Inside workers have laid the event center's foundation and now the detail work will begin. Opening day is set for the first week of April. The arena has already landed Yanni and several more big announcements are scheduled.

"We want ti schedule those announcements for maximum impact," said Arena Manager John Nath.

Another multi-million dollar project in Sedgwick County, The National Center for Aviation Training at Jabara Airport, is well underway.

The administration building will open in May and they're already moving dirt to start on the last two buildings for the tech campus. Classes should start out here in August 2010.

Just one of three huge projects making major progress.

"It's very exciting to see all this come together," said Holt.
