Tuesday is election day but thousands have already cast their ballots. Advance voting for the 2008 election wrapped up Monday.

Hundreds of last-minute advanced voters packed into the election office before the noon deadline. The line stretched through the hallways, out the door and all the way to the street. While the wait is long to cast their ballots, many voters are thrilled by the turnout.

"Oh God it's awesome. It's good for all of us. This is showing our support for who you want to vote for and I'm here to stand up for my vote," said voter Barbara Grubs.

The results are in the numbers are record high. More than 40% of registered voters, well over 100,000 of them, advanced voted in person or by mail over the past couple of weeks. Compare that to the last presidential election when only 8,000 people cast their ballots in advance. In all, election turnout is set to hit at least 80%.

"This would be a phenomenal record but this has definately been an election like no other so I wouldn't be surprised to see it go even higher," said Sedgwick County Election Commissioner Bill Gale.

But even though turnout is set to be high for this huge election, the election commissioner says lines on actual election day shouldn't be too long because so many people came out in advance.

"It will still be a busy day that's for sure, but it shouldn't be this crazy," said Gale.
