A 17-year-old boy was fatally shot and a 17-year-old girl critically wounded early Sunday morning in a shooting at a home in North Wichita.

Wichita police responded to a 911 call to Sedgwick County dispatchers at about 1 a.m. Sunday reporting shots fired at a home in the 2500 block of East Shadybrook. Emergency medical crews pronounced the boy dead at the scene. The girl was taken to Wesley Medical Center in critical condition.

The teen who died has been identified as Tyree Bell. His death marks the city's 8th homicide this year.

Witnesses said a known 15-year-old suspect fired the shots before running from the scene. Police believe he was upset that the victims, one being the suspect’s sister, were having relations.

According to police investigators, only one shot was fired from the rifle which hit Bell and the suspect's sister. The single bullet reportedly hit Bell in the head and went through the girl's right hand and left shoulder.

Authorities say the suspect was home on a weekend pass from the Wichita Children's Home.

The suspect was arrested Sunday evening around 9:00 p.m. Police say he is a gang member.
