Since the NCAA tournament started, the Go Wichita website has seen a 25-percent increase in the number of unique visitors, compared to last year.
"The fact that the Shockers are making a deep run in tournament is translating into good exposure for Wichita," said Ken Vandruff, director of communications for Go Wichita. "The kind of advertising you just cannot buy."
The national exposure on the Wichita State University men's basketball team has helped boost the online traffic for sites like Go Wichita, as well as for WSU.
"It's not a flyover state. It's a place that you should come, you should stop at, you should get educated, and you should stay and work in our community," said Deborah Kennedy, executive director for the WSU Alumni Association.
Some people who live and work in Wichita are hopeful that the attention the basketball team is getting will help boost the local economy.
"WSU put us on the map so I think a lot more people are going to start coming here," said Evelyn Crawford. "Hopefully, it's going to boost the economy and be great for business."
