Political, garage sale, and business signs are not allowed on public property, utility poles, and public right of ways.
"If they're out on the street right of way they're just not supposed to be there period," said Kurt Schroeder, Wichita Central Inspection Superintendent.
Officials say these ordinances were created for public safety and to maintain a positive image along Wichita streets.
"We understand that. They don't want them right at the intersection and we definitely don't want to put any drivers in danger and make this a safety issue," said Jeff Blubaugh, real estate agent.
Chapter 24 of the Municipal Code spells out regulations and standards for signs. Every year 10,000 to 15,000 illegal signs are taken down by city workers.
