More than a month after the Wichita State University men's basketball team made it to the Final Four, local stores are still reporting strong sales for Shocker merchandise.
"The last couple of months have been crazy. We get people from all over the country each day looking for Final Four gear," said Keith Leonard, manager at Kansas Sampler, near 29th and Rock Road.
Sales at the Kansas Sampler have been strong. Leading up to the Final Four, they sold more than 25,000 t-shirts. Since then, they have sold more than one thousand more t-shirts. Leonard expects to sell more after recently discounting Final Four merchandise.
Sales were also strong at Wichita State. Sales at the WSU Bookstore were up 300-percent in the month of April. They sold more than 20,000 t-shirts during March Madness.
"That's kind of what you're hoping for. We did well starting with the Sweet 16, all the way through the Final Four," said Kevin Konda, director of the WSU Bookstore.
The owner of Sports Time Fan Shop added that this year's sales were a big boost to the economy. He expects that this year's success will encourage vendors to provide more WSU merchandise for the next season.
"We have seen several vendors open up offerings for WSU again. That's what happens when you
have a big winner," said Joe Ward, owner of Sports Time Fan Shop, near 21st and Maize Road.
