All Wichita City League football games and several area games got a late start tonight due to the heat.
Games were pushed back to 7:30 p.m.
"Our student safety is most important to us. With this triple digit heat, it is so important for us to keep their safety in mind," said Kelly Dandurand, assistant principat at Kapaun Mt. Carmel high school.
Although parents were glad to get the extra time to get ready, they also felt that the football players may have had a longer day than expected.
"It was good for us because it gave us more time to prepare and get ready. We weren't rushing around as much," said Laura Baxter, parent. "Player wise, I think it might've messed with them mentally but we haven't seen them since seven this morning, so it's a long day for those boys."
Delays for games included the following: Salina South-Campus game in Haysville, Buhler at Rose Hill game, Derby at Salina Central, Newton at Maize, Circle at Maize South, and Augusta at Winfield.
