It's damage control today for areas taking a direct hit from last night's storms. In Goddard, large hail left a trail of damage targeting homes, cars, and businesses, many of which were still recovering from a storm last year.
As residents took cover during the storm, they called it 'scary.'
"Yeah it was scary, it was real scary. I don't think I'd ever been through something like that before, that bad," said Goddard resident Dolores Arevalo.
The storm brought large hail to Goddard, and a lot of it.
"The ground got all white like it snowed," said Arevalo.
The Arevalos also suffered damage to their home for the second time in nine months. Hail shattered one pane of their bedroom window. A tree in the backyard also snapped in the storm, and a truck out front is now full of dents.
It was a similar story at the Goddard Police Department, where the fleet is now in need of more repairs just months after suffering damage in the last hail storm.
At Action Car Care on West Kellogg a car lot full of vehicles also took a direct hit.
"Most of the right sides are completely hail damaged," said Action Car Care owner Terry Lang.
The business also lost 13 shop windows and suffered some roof damage. Lang says the aftermath is worse for him than the September 2010 storm, so the dents and broken glass came as somewhat of a surprise. But he says the storm was not anything unexpected.
"Oh just a typical Kansas storm," said Lang.
