A 29-year-old man involved in a series of accidents in east Wichita Friday morning remains in serious condition at a local hospital.
Wichita Police tell KAKE News they now believe the man was suffering from a medical problem during the crashes.
A police chase in east Wichita began after officers witnessed a hit and run accident, officials said.
It began near 13th and Hillside, just before 10 a.m. Friday. Police said two officers witnessed a red Chevy Cavalier strike two vehicles and continue eastbound on 13th. One officer stopped to check on the two vehicles hit, and the other began pursuing the Cavalier.
Investigators said the suspect continued down 13th Street, driving at speeds of 50 mph. The suspect's vehicle then lost a tire and hit an SUV near 13th and Woodlawn.
Three people in the SUV received minor injuries. The suspect was also injured and remains in serious condition. All were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
No officers were hurt during the incident.
Drivers have been asked to avoid the area as officials clear the scene.

Four people have been injured after a police chase in East Wichita.
The pursuit began just before 10 a.m., and ended with a crash near 13th and Woodlawn.
Dispatchers said the suspect's vehicle struck another car. Four people, including the suspect, have been hurt. No officers were injured in the pursuit.
Emergency crews transported three people to the hospital with potentially serious injuries. One person received minor injuries.
It is unclear what sparked the chase.
