Scott County leaders are mourning the death of one of the county's commissioners and a special education teacher who were among four family members killed in a plane crash this week.

35-year-old Dylan Spencer was an active community member who served on the county commission, economic development board and Scott City Municipal Airport board.

He also served more than three years on the Scott City Commission.

Spencer's wife, 34-year-old Amy Spencer, was a special education teacher in Scott City. The couple and their two daughters, 7-year-old Chase and 5-year-old Ansley, were killed Friday when a plane piloted by Dylan Spencer crashed 3 miles north of Topeka.

The family was on its way to Topeka to spend Easter with Amy Spencer's family.

Four members of a Scott City family were killed in a plane crash Northeast of Topeka Friday morning.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, a twin-engine Beechcraft Baron 58 crashed while en route to Philip Billard Municipal Airport just Northeast of Topeka.

The Kansas Highway Patrol identifies the victims as;

Dylan Spencer, 35
Amy Spencer, 34
Chase Spencer, 7
Ansley Spencer, 5

Family and friends tell KAKE news the family was on the way to the Topeka area to spend the Easter weekend with family.

Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Herrig says witnesses believe the motor sputtered and cut off before crashing into a muddy cornfield near the airport.

Airport officials say the plane circled once, missed the approach and tried to make another approach before crashing.

The FAA has sent an investigation team to the scene.

The planes flight plan says it took off from Scott City Municipal Airport for Philip Billard Municipal Airport.
