Thousands of people braved the temperature drop on Friday, hoping not to miss the long standing family tradition in McPherson.

"Partly for tradition. I've been doing this since I was a little baby, but also my son who is in kindergarten this year, was on the float," said Olivia Gates, parade watcher.

Kids and adults huddled up together, hoping that bundling up with coats and blankets would keep them warm enough to see the floats in the 98th annual "All Schools Day" parade.

"It's very cold outside. Last year it was really warm, so I think it was a lot harder this year," said Krystal May, a student who participated in the parade.

"It's nice. It's good. Probably as good as last year's. We were here last year. So far, so good," said Daieneen Bruce, parade watcher.

More than 25 area school bands marched in full gear while dozens of school royalty paraded down Main Street, to celebrate McPherson County's education system.

"It's been going on since 1914. This is the 98th year, 'Life's Shining Moments.' It's just to celebrate the education and the youth of McPherson County, so everybody comes out. Every year, it seems to get bigger and better," said Hope Cranford, "All Schools Day" chairperson.

Some elected officials also took the time to celebrate in McPherson. The parade is the highlight of the weeklong celebration.

"For as long as I can remember I've come with my mom and also with my grandma. There's been many years where it's been cold and some years we've gotten sunburned," said Gates. "It's good memories even though some of them are cold."
