A controversial vote by the city council means a change for the Wichita Ice Center.
The council voted 4-3 in favor of hiring Genesis Health Clubs of Wichita to manage the Ice Center, located at 505 W. Maple, beginning April 1.
Council members chose Genesis over two other companies, including Virginia-based Rink Management. Rink Management has been operating the rink for the last four years. Several employees and skaters opposed the change in management.
Rodney Steven of Genesis Health Clubs said he will begin management by doing some painting and replacing flooring and air conditioners.
In the future, Genesis may put in a work out facility on the second floor.
