A Harvey County judge ruled there's enough evidence to hold a man for trial in the death of a child. A preliminary hearing was held for Chad Carr in Newton this afternoon.

Carr is charged with murder in the March, 2010 death of 19-month-old Vincent Hill. The child's injuries included broken bones, torn fingernails and bruises.

Carr was home alone with the child when he died. He called 911 and reported the child was not breathing. During today's hearing, a coroner testified the boy died of suffocation and blunt force trauma. A pediatrician testified Hill was dead for two to three hours before Carr called 911.

An investigator who interviewed Carr said Carr told him he would stuff a rag in the child's mouth when he would cry or be fussy.

A judge set a trial date of August 18Th.
