Wichita police are investigating after an overnight shooting sends a teenage boy the hospital.

The teen, believed to be 15 years old, was evaluated as critical at the scene but has since been treated and released after treatment for a gunshot wound to his pelvic region.

Police began receiving calls from concerned neighbors after hearing gunshots just before 2:00 Saturday morning near 31st and Hood streets in Northwest Wichita.

As police arrived, they saw a red SUV speeding away. The SUV was stopped near 19th and Market streets. The shooting victim was found inside, Sgt. Colin Gallagher told KAKE News.

Gallagher said it appeared the teen's friends were trying to get him to the hospital. Paramedics arrived to help stabilize the teen and finish the trip.

Investigators say the juveniles were all headed to a house party in the area near 31st and Hood. Sgt. Gallagher said there were no immediate suspects in the case, and detectives were still working to figure out where the shots came from.
