Investigators in Marion County are hot on the trail of some vandals who destroyed several American flags in a Peabody cemetery over the Memorial Day weekend.
Prairie Lawn Cemetery maintenance man Robert Morgan found the flags early the Saturday morning before Memorial Day. Nine flags were torn, ripped from the poles and thrown on the ground.
The town of Peabody honors its veterans every year at the cemetery by flying almost 200 flags.
"Really kind of breath taking, because you don't expect this. We've had this for years, with lights on them. People come out here at night to see them with the lights on them," said Morgan.
The Marion County Sheriff says he has identified several suspects in the case and expects to make arrests early next week.
