After pulling the victim of a car crash out of a sewage lagoon, highway patrol troopers are being called heroes.
It happened Thursday afternoon when a car veered off the turnpike near the Mulvane exit and flipped into a lagoon.
Trooper Dallas Gilmore rushed to the scene and did not hesitate to get into the contaminated water to save the driver of the car.
"Yes, it's unusual and it doesn't happen often. We just did what any other trooper or any other law enforcement officer would have done," said Gilmore.
Gilmore and his lieutenant pulled 53 year-old Joseph Edgerton from the submerged car. He's still in critical condition. Gilmore and other rescue crew members are checking in with their doctors today with hopes they don't end up with hepatitis or any other disease because of the lagoon water.
