A medical examiner testifying in the trial of a couple charged with illegally writing prescription drugs conceded that a man whose death she ruled a drug overdose may have died from a heart attack.

Dr. Jamie Oeberst testified Friday in the trial of Dr. Stephen Schneider and his wife, Linda. Prosecutors have linked prescriptions written at their clinic in Haysville with 68 overdose deaths. The couple has been charged with directly contributing to 21 deaths, fraud and money laundering.

Defense attorney Lawrence Williamson challenged several of Oeberst's autopsy rulings. He pointed out that most of the autopsies involved patients with enlarged hearts and clogged heart valves. Several had also taken illicit drugs like cocaine and some were not Schneider's patients.
