A man walked into the Air Capital Pawn shop at Harry and Hillside shortly before 11 a.m. Friday in Wichita with his small child.
The clerk told police he sensed something was wrong when the man walked up to the gun counter and asked to look at a weapon.
"He just asked the pawn shop owner if he could look at the guns," Lieutenant Walker Andrews says. "He had taken one out of the case and said he wanted it for his son and put it in his son's pocket. And then he took another one out of the case and put it in his pocket."
The clerk pushed his silent alarm button as the man began demanding money with his young son present.
To make matters worse, two more small children were waiting in the car outside of the store. All three kids were taken into protective custody.
"It's just kind of an odd, strange occurrence that's really not normal for a robbery," Lieutenant Walker adds.
Officers found another surprise waiting in the man's vehicle. Two more children.
Police arrested the man without a fight, called for children's car seats to be brought to the scene, and placed all three children into protective custody.
