Roughly 800 people received 60-day layoff WARN notices at Cessna today. But remaining employees also won’t return for another month as today is the last paid day under a four-week furlough.
The layoffs and furloughs are part of the workforce reduction announcement Cessna made last week, which included 1,300 new layoffs. Aside from today’s 800 WARN notices, 500 more will receive notice by August 14th.
Cessna began making cuts last November, which has reduced staff by roughly 53%.
Company leaders say the business jet market is still in a nose dive; aircraft usage is down, sales are stagnant and order cancellations and deferrals have left many holes in production schedules.
