Sedgwick County Commissioners held a budget meeting Friday afternoon, where one commissioner told the sheriff he wasn’t being cooperative.
County Commissioner Gwen Welshimer says that on a scale of one to 10, Sheriff Bob Hinshaw’s cooperation with the commission is a three. The sheriff respectfully denies that.
Sedgwick County hired a consultant to work with the sheriff’s department on the overcrowding at the jail.
Sheriff Hinshaw wants to add two deputies for court security, a mental health pod and $1.6 million for outside housing for inmates. Welshimer believes there are ways to cut down on jail population without spending money and raising taxes.
