Bryce Kintigh is a storm chaser for KAKE. He's only seen two tornadoes this year. "Memorial weekend is a wonderful time for us to be out in the field, but not this year, it just didn't happen," said Kintigh.

A normal May will see about 168 tornado and storm watches across the country. Last month there were only 100. That's the lowest number of watches since 1992 when there were 92.

'It's just the weather patterns. We go in a cyclical nature and sometimes it's a little bit slower than previous years," said Chance Hayes from the Wichita National Weather Service.

Hayes points out this Memorial Day weekend was one of the quietest he can remember. Last year there were 70 tornadoes in Kansas on just one day of the holiday weekend. He adds, it may have been slow this year, but don't let your guard down. The storms will be back with a vengeance.
