Until April 2005, a bus service existed between Wichita and Pueblo, Colorado, until Greyhound put a halt to the route because it wasn’t profitable. The Kansas Department of Transportation is coordinating with Colorado’s transportation department to restart this service, as well as add a route between Wichita and Salina.

The bus routes will be made possible by federal stimulus funds. With the money, KDOT plans to purchase three or four coach-style buses for an operator to use.

KDOT’s Lisa Koch says the governor’s task force heard from numerous people in southwest and south central Kansas that more bus services were needed to connect with Denver, Wichita, Salina and Kansas City.

If everything goes to plan, KDOT says the new service could start either late this year or early next year.
