The Kansas Army National Guard visited Bluestem High School in Leon today where the students were treated to a fun-filled morning while learning about the benefits and opportunities of military service.
The event centered around Military Appreciation and Pride Day, or MAAP.
“The military is not all fun and games, but we do offer college benefits and a chance to serve the community and country,” said Sgt. First Class Ricardo Morena.
This is the second MAAP day to be held at Bluestem High School. Officials hope to make it an annual event and the kids aren’t complaining.
“Today is Good Friday, a lot of schools are out today, so we thought his would be a good way to finish the week and give them fun time as well,” said Superintendent Randy Rivers.
The students enjoyed another unique opportunity. They were able to visit with soldiers live in Afghanistan via web cam.
