The new whale exhibit at Exploration Place opens this weekend and brings a taste of the South Pacific to the Air Capital.
“You have to come and see the show, you will never have a chance to see this show again,” said Melissa Dodds, Tour Manager for Museum of New Zealand.
The show is one-of-a-kind, possibly the largest exhibit of whales and whale skeletons in the world. It features interactive audio-visual elements, a detailed look at the history of whaling and two complete sperm whale skeletons. All the bones in the exhibit are real.
The exhibit was developed and created by the museum of New Zealand. The actual whales in the exhibit are from New Zealand.
“You also get to crawl through a life-sized whale heart, the blue whale heart, like our heart but on a larger scale,” Dodds said.
Exploration Place is the only museum in the Midwest to host the exhibit. It will travel to Pittsburgh and then Boston when its run in Wichita is over.
The exhibit opens Saturday, March 1st and runs through September 7th.
