Thousands of Hawker Beechcraft workers are bracing for pink slips this morning.
Earlier this week, the aerospace manufacturer announced it was cutting 2,300 jobs company-wide today. The company did not specify how many of those would be Wichita employees.
Hawker sources say employees with up to eight years of experience could lose their jobs today. Some will be laid off immediately and receive 60-day severance pay. Others will receive a 60-day WARN notice. Sources say those with 10 years of experience are likely safe.
The company blames the layoffs on lost jet orders, the worldwide economic recession and media coverage Hawkers says puts the industry in an unfair light.
Today's layoffs bring the total number of Hawker layoffs to 2,700. Five-hundred employees were laid off in November.
