A driver is hurt after running head-on into two semi trucks early this morning on a Wichita highway.
It happened shortly before 4 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-135 just south of the I-235/K-254 junction.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reports 32 year old Veronica Bates of Derby was driving her car the wrong way in the northbound lanes of I-135 when she side-swiped a semi, lost control of the vehicle and struck another semi.
The accident closed the northbound lanes of I-135 for several hours. The lanes reopened just before 8:00 a.m.
Bates was pinned in the car for about an hour before emergency crews removed her. She was taken to St. Francis hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The two semi truck drivers were not hurt. One man was sleeping in the sleeper compartment of one truck -- he also was uninjured.
No word yet on whether alcohol was a factor in the accident.
