It's that time of the year when everyone is excited about opening those Christmas presents, but we don't often think that what we do next can be an invitation to criminals.
We're talking about the boxes and packaging those presents come in. Usually we take that stuff out to the curb for pick up with our trash cart. That could be a mistake.
Burglars look for boxes from expensive items like flat screen televisions, blue ray DVD players, computers and more. Those are the homes they try and hit when people go to work or worse ... at night.
Christmas falls on Thursday this year. If your trash doesn't pick up until the following Monday, don't put the boxes at the curb. Put them in the backyard or garage until the morning of trash pick up.
If possible, break down the boxes so you can't tell what came in them. Also, let your neighbors know this is an easy way to prevent someone from becoming the victim of an after Christmas burglary.
