El Dorado Firefighters say an elderly lady was lucky to escape a fire that engulfed her entire house. It happened on the 300 block of Diagonal Street.
On this Thanksgiving weekend 83-year-old Dolores Lee's family is giving thanks she is still alive.
"First thing I thought about was thank you God this Thanksgiving. We are so thankful," said Lee's daughter Debbie Dunagan.
Lee called from inside her house for help just after midnight Friday. A move firefighters call dangerous.
When they got to the house there was heavy smoke and fire coming from the garage, where the fire started. The flames then got into the attic and spread fast across the entire house.
"It was a serious fire. We had a hard time getting the fire out in the attic so it took them until 2:30 in the morning to get the fire completely out," said El Dorado Fire Captain Rick Whiteside.
Lee was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene but is now doing okay. Her house though is a total loss with damage estimated at at least $120,000.
While fire investigators search for the cause of the fire, Lee's family searches through the house trying to find anything they can salvage. All the while remembering how lucky they are to sill have her alive.
"She's okay thank you good Lord. It was by the grace of God she got out. We're so grateful. Anything can be replaced but her," said Dunagan.
