Wichita police are searching for the person who stole two Salvation Army kettles.
Both kettles were stolen Thursday, one was outside Towne East Square, the other outside a local grocery store.
Police said both thefts happened when the Salvation Army bell ringer left the stand to use the restroom.
Salvation Army spokesperson Tim Brown believes the thefts could be the work of someone familiar with the kettle collection process, possibly even someone who has worked as a bell ringer. Brown said the thefts come at a terrible time, because the demand for services will be higher than usual.
The Salvation Army will make changes in its kettle collection process.
There's no word on how much money was taken.
