There are a little more than a thousand people that live in Chapman, but that number has grown this week thanks to some makeover magic. The presence of ABC's hit show has turned the town into the state's newest tourist attraction.

Sam Owens' family says it was more than happy to help host the circus that is Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

"They were very nice to work with," Sam says. "They asked us whatever we need, what can we do for ya?"

From the porch of his father's house, currently serving as a media holding area, he watches as his neighbors home transforms from nothing but a concrete slab to an honest-to-goodness five bedroom house in less than 36 hours.

Not far away, spectators from Chapman and beyond marveled at the sheer speed of the construction.

"It's amazing what people can do when they put their hearts and minds together," says Mariana Wilson, from Salina.

Members of the American Legion have set up shop, selling burgers and brats to chilly passersby. Proceeds are benefiting local veterans.

The framing of the house is now done, as is all electrical work. Crews are inside putting up sheetrock as more finish a covered porch and stone siding.

In addition to the main home project, volunteers have helped finish renovation efforts at other damaged homes by replacing windows and doors. They also helped demolish a badly damaged church and are renovating a park area near the new community center and storm shelter.

Producers say they're running about six hours behind, but plan to make up at least two hours by the time work ends Friday night.
