Pheasant Season Begins

Stay up-to-date with KAKE News:

Hunters from across the country are flocking to Kansas to hunt pheasants. The season begins earlier than ever and a forecast of a large crop of birds has hunters anxious to get started.

"This is my fourth year hunting in Kansas on opening weekend," said Chris Coffing, hunter from Norfolk, Virginia.

Pheasant season is the most popular of the hunting seasons in Kansas. Though one doesn't usually think of Kansas as a tourist destination, the state generates a lot of revenue from hunters during the season.

"We get tens of thousands of hunters that come from out of state to hunt
pheasants in Kansas as well as tens of thousands of resident hunters. So it
is a big opener. It does mean a lot of money coming into the state," said Mark Murrell from Kansas Wildlife and Parks.

The season used to open the second Saturday of November every year, along with quail season.
