A Kansas State University student and Army Reserve member won the Miss Kansas 2013 competition in Pratt Saturday night.
Theresa Vail, 22, competed as Miss Leavenworth County. The Miss Kansas pageant notes she's currently a soldier in the Army Reserves, and won two preliminary competitions during the week. Her platform is "Empowering Young Women Through Male-Dominated Outdoor Activities."
Facebook posts indicate the first runner-up was Miss Butler County Ashley Ulmer, who has attended Wichita State University. Winfield resident Hannah Langley, competing as Miss Southwest, was fourth runner-up.
Miss Cowley County Kristen Boxman was named Miss Kansas' Outstanding Teen, a competition for younger women.
Vail advances to the Miss America competition, which returns to Atlantic City, New Jersey this year after several years in Las Vegas. Watch the final night of the event on KAKE Sunday, September 15.
