Jamie Lynn Spears couldn't look her mother in the eye to tell her she was pregnant at 16.

Lynne Spears says that Jamie Lynn handed her a note and told her to read it in the bedroom alone. She says the note revealed she was pregnant, but "everything was OK" and that she and her boyfriend were going to raise the baby.

Spears thought it was a joke at first. She says she was "waiting for the punchline."

When she realized Jamie Lynn was serious, she started crying and had to be consoled by her daughter.

Spears says both her daughters are doing fine now and that Britney's "heading for the top once again."

Jamie Lynn's daughter Maddie is now three months old.

Spears is out with a book about her family called "Through the Storm."
