This year's top Emmy award nominations
include basic cable programs for the first time ever.

AMC's "Mad Men," a drama about the advertising world, and FX's
legal thriller "Damages" are among the nominees announced today
for best-series.

"Lost" joined "Mad Men" and "Damages" in the best-drama
series category that also includes "Boston Legal, "Dexter" and
"House."

"John Adams," HBO's prestige historical drama about one of
America's founding fathers, was the overall frontrunner with 23
bids.

"30 Rock," honored as best comedy series last year, was the
top nominee among sitcoms with 17 bids.

"The Wire," the critically acclaimed HBO drama about police
and drug dealers in Baltimore, lost its last shot at ending years
of Emmy snubs after wrapping its final season.

This is the 60th anniversary of the Emmys.

The Emmy Awards ceremony will be held September 21st and
broadcast on KAKE.
