The 3 year-old case of a Wichita woman who was gunned down in her own front yard has gone cold. Melvina Reese was killed in the 1800 block of North Piatt in 2004. At the time, she was living with her mother.

Detective Heather Bachman says, "She was a single mom. She had recently been in trouble with the law, so she was required to wear an ankle bracelet."

During the original investigation, police arrested a man who lived across the street from Reese.

"He talked to us for a little while," says Bachman. "But then he wouldn't talk to us any more. We haven't been able to put together enough evidence to charge him."

Reese had stepped outside of her home on the night she was murdered. Bachman says somebody approached and fired one shot. The shell casing was found in the yard.

"We're just looking for that one person who might have that piece of evidence or information that can lead us down the right path," says Bachman.
