An elderly Wichita man was murdered inside his own home more than three years ago during a robbery. Hamp Lewis was 79 years-old when he was brutally beaten to death at 2037 N. Minneapolis. His body was discovered by his daughter on June 10th, 2004. His murder remains unsolved.

"Hamp was pretty active for a guy his age," says Wichita Police Detective Tom Fatkin. "He was well liked in the neighborhood. He'd lived there for years."

When friends and family hadn't heard from the man they called Uncle Hampy, they thought it was odd. One friend called Lewis' house several times, but could not get an answer.

Lewis' daughter and a neighbor went into the house and discovered his beaten body inside.

"It was obvious there had been a robbery," says Fatkin. "Several rooms had been gone through. Money was missing."

Although police won't say if they believe more than one person was involved in the crime, Fatkin says there is hope that someone knows who did this unthinkable act.

"Typically in cases, especially homicide cases, people will talk to other people," Fatkin says. "Somewhere out there in Wichita, someone has talked to somebody."

If you have any information on who murdered Hamp Lewis, call Crimestoppers at 267-2111. You may always remain anonymous and you could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest or conviction of a suspect.
