UPDATE
A western Kansas inmate attacked the only corrections officer working at the Kearny County Jail and escaped Monday night.
27-year old, Mitchell Ebihara was being held for attempted 1st degree murder, aggravated battery, and two other felonies.
Area law enforcement agencies assisted by setting up road blocks and conducting searches, but they were unable to find him.
Ebihara fled heading west from the jail but deputies admit he could be anywhere.
Ebihara last lived at a trailer park in Northwest Garden City. He is scheduled to go on trail on December 10th for shooting Ricardo Lopez of Lakin in January.
"My initial reaction was (to check on my family), so I came over here immediately to check on their well-being," says Ernesto Lopez, the brother of Ricardo Lopez. "Then I went and did some searching of my own. I went and checked my brother's house and all that. I was just concerned for my family pretty much."
Area law enforcement officers will continue working together in hopes of tracking down the inmate as soon as possible.
Ebihara was last seen wearing a white and orange stripped jail uniform. He's described as 5'4", 118 pounds, with brown eyes, short black hair, and a light complexion.
