The Hill City Police Department and the Graham County Sheriff are investigating what they are calling a suspicious death. A man was discovered dead inside his apartment at 214 S. 5th Street Wednesday afternoon, according to Sheriff Cole Presley.
"We are not calling this a homicide yet," Presley said. "However, we find the scene suspicious enough to warrant more investigation."
Presley has identified the victim as 48 year0old Kevin Hackerott, who reportedly was the only resident of the apartment where he was found. Presley also tells KAKE News that no weapon was found on the scene, but that Hackerott's body did have evidence of trauma.
The body was sent to Hays for an autopsy in order to reveal the cause of death. However, Presley says the autopsy was inconclusive Thursday. Therefore, further tests will be conducted and the sheriff will continue investigating.
"Nobody we talked to in the area seems to have heard or seen anything suspicious," Presley said.
If anyone has any helpful information, they are asked to call the Hill City Police Department at 785-421-2107 or the KBI at 1-800-KS-CRIME.
