Saving money means different things to different people. Here are a few suggestions that work for some:
First, some always buy bagged produce. Why. Because some produce is cheaper by the bag than by the pound. A five-pound bag of potatoes can cost $2.99, compared with buying 'loose' ones in a bin for .99 cents per pound.
Check out the store location of the item you want. One consumer found a store-brand Swiss cheese for $6.99 in the deli, while in the refrigerated case, that same cheese was $5.58 per pound.
People who live alone complain that they don't want to cook for one person. So don't. Cook enough, at one time, for several meals and put them in plastic cartons in the fridge for the future.
Here's an item from someone who apparently speaks from experience. They write, perhaps tongue-in-cheek, to avoid being friends with people who are getting married. With the travel, clothes and hotel your budget can quickly be decimated.
Another writes that he and his fiancé throw their spare change in a jar for a year and use it for gas money on their yearly vacation.
Another money-saver writes that he keeps all is AC adapters on a power strip and switch them off when they are not being used. He says it’s great for cell phones, camera chargers, Play Stations and more.
One controversial tip: You really have to be living with the right person, or be single, to make this work. One person said to only flush the toilet only at the end of the day, right before you go to be as a way to save water. If you do that, the good news is you'll probably save money by staying single for a long, long time.
Another cost cutter says become a vegetarian. You eat cheap everywhere. People also worry that you aren't eating enough and send you home with tons of extra food.
