The average cell phone user spends $600 per year on mobile service, while some families can spend upwards of $1,800.

Here are a few ways to save money on your cell phone bills:

  • Go Prepaid. It's just like your monthly cell plan, except you buy what you need, pay for it advance…and the best news - no contract. Some save has much as $240 to $360 depending on which carrier's plan you buy. If you are a big talker using lots of minutes - the advisor says some folks are saving $600 to over $1,000.

  • Don’t Overbuy Your Minutes. Review your bills for the past six months and look at the billable daytime minutes. If you’re not using all your minutes, switch to a less expensive plan.

  • Don’t Buy Unneeded Services. Voice service is cheap, but cell phone bills can get expensive when you add extra features. If you don’t need them, don’t subscribe to them.

  • Check For Employee Discounts. It’s possible that the company you work for has a discount plan with one of the cell carriers. Check it out, it could mean savings.

  • Have Your Usage Analyzed. Upload an electronic copy of your bill to: www.billshrink.com for a free analysis. The company will check out the best plan to fit your needs.

  • Say NO To Phone Insurance. If you upgrade your phone, save the old one to use as backup. You can eventually get a new phone at little or no upfront cost when your contract comes up for renewal.
