The Sedgwick County Zoo is hitting the streets in an effort to get up close and personal with animals.
The zoo serves more than 12,000 students from economically disadvantaged neighborhoods every year. But some groups are unable to travel to west Wichita.
Now thanks to a local car dealership, the zoo is on the move. Mel Hambelton Ford donated a Ford Transit to connect more people with animals.
“This isn’t just a vehicle," said Executive Director Mark C. Reed. "To us this is inspiration, discovery, and adventure on wheels.”
The outreach programs tailors to schools and senior centers across Sedgwick County.
