Wichita Police Make 64 DUI Arrests Over Holidays

The Wichita Police Department made 64 DUI arrests for the Holiday period from Thursday, December 23rd at 5 p.m. through midnight Sunday, January 2nd. In 2009, during the same holiday period there were 25 DUI arrests.

The following breakdown is for the period between Christmas and New Years.

Police made 19 DUI arrests over Christmas weekend through December 26th. Over the following two holiday weekends, from December 27th through December 30th, an additional 22 DUI arrests were made.

Police also arrested 23 for DUI over New Year's weekend.

“We are always vigilant when it comes to detecting and arresting drunk drivers, but especially around the Holiday’s”, said Captain Rusty Leeds. “With the Holiday Season people enjoy special celebrations. We just want them to celebrate wisely, and not drink and drive.”

In 2010 the Wichita Police Department made 2,087 DUI arrest. This compares to 1,777 in 2009.
