Area law enforcement officials today announced the dedication of the Sedgwick County Law Enforcement Memorial. The dedication will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Law Enforcement Memorial at Wichita City Hall, 455 N. Main.
Attendees include Sedgwick County Sheriff Robert Hinshaw, Derby Chief of Police Robert Lee, Clearwater Chief of Police Gene Garcia and Wichita Police Department Chief Norman Williams. Each agency has an officer or deputy represented on the memorial.
The Law Enforcement Memorial has been in the development since 2002. The memorial honors police officers and sheriff’s deputies who were killed in the line of duty. Every detail associated with the memorial has been thoughtfully designed to individualize these fallen heroes.
“We are extremely grateful for the generosity of our citizens and the dedicated Law Enforcement Memorial Committee for making the memorial a reality for our colleagues who made the supreme sacrifice.” Williams said.
“This endeavor has been a decade in the making,” Hinshaw said. “While the memorial is a great tribute to our fallen, the dedication is a celebration of accomplishment by a few visionaries who lead us down this road, enthusiastically supported by this community.”
