"Help Wichita" day is helping Operation Holiday by donating 10 percent of total sales today from Wichita Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and Blockbuster locations.

The 65 locations that Fugate Enterprises owns participated in the "Help Wichita" day. A portion of total sales today will benefit Operation Holiday.

"Operation Holiday is something local and we wanted to do something to help the people in Wichita this year. Wichita's been hit economically pretty hard in the last year so it directly benefits. The money stays here," said Geoff Graves, Fugate Enterprises Operations Manager.

Operation Holiday is celebrating its 50th year of helping people in need with food and clothes during the holiday season. Organizers say that last year they served more than 14,000 people and more than half of them were children.

"There are so many children that are in poverty. People that we are serving often are employed but don't make enough to make ends meet. So they have to choose between whether or not they buy food, pay the utility bill, purchase prescriptions," said Sue Castile, Inter-Faith Ministries Executive Director.

People can still help out by donating non-perishable food items and gently used warm clothes to the Operation Holiday Distribution/Donation Center at 1801 W. 21st N (east side of Twin Lakes Shopping Center). Other ways to help can be found here.
