The former Kansas Coliseum, now the Kansas Pavilions, will open its doors to the community Saturday.
The event will be from 1 to 4 p.m. and will feature horse rides, K-9 search and rescue demonstrations, a dog agility show, and a clown rodeo.
Entry to the event and refreshments are free.
The Britt Brown Arena hosted The Kansas Sports, Boat and Travel show February, 2010 as its final event. For many years, Britt Brown served as the "Showplace of Kansas." After February 21, Sedgwick County preserved the arena in its current state and maintained it to prevent further deterioration.
The pavilions continued to host a variety of events.
The county has spruced up and renovated key areas of the buildings, also building an outdoor exercise arena and resurfacing some parking.
The Kansas Pavilions is a multipurpose facility that hosts horse, livestock and dog shows, swap meets, flea markets, trade shows and car, truck and motorcycle shows.
The facility includes special features like portable seating; concession stands, and large-door entrances. For a schedule of upcoming events at the Kansas Pavilions go to http:www.sedgwickcounty.org/kansas_pavilions/upcomingevents or just click on the words "Related Links" below this story.
