Fireworks, Parades Scheduled For Fourth Of July Weekend

Some fireworks shows and Independence Day activities have been scheduled in the area.

In Augusta, a community Firework Celebration is free to the public on Monday, July 4 at the Augusta City Lake. You can find out more by clicking here.

In Derby, the Derby Kiwanis Pancake and Sausage Breakfast will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday, July 4 at the Derby Recreation Center located at 801 E. Market. Tickets are $5 for those 13 and older and $3 for 2 to 12 year-old. Two years old and under are free. A parade sponsored by Derby VFW and American Legion is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at Panther Stadium. Bring your lawn chair for the Independence Day Celebration which will open with free ice cream at the Hiland Dairy Ice Cream Social at 7 p.m. Fireworks are set to begin at about 9:40 p.m. at High Park, 2700 E. In El Dorado, the 13th Annual 4th of July Celebration begins at 11:30 a.m. and runs through 4 p.m. on Monday, July 4th. Hot dogs and chips will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a free swim at the municipal pool from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Events and activities include a water balloon toss, sand art, ans wiffle ball. You must be registered to play the games by 3 p.m. July 1. The free fireworks show will take place at about 9 p.m. at Forest Park & Municipal Pool located at 900 N. Taylor at Haverhill and West Central.

In Haysville, The Haysville Youth Firecracker Parade begins at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 3 and is free to the public. Children ages 0 to 12 are encouraged to wear costumes and participate in the parade by decorating their bikes, strollers or wagons. The parade will go through Riggs Park and will begin and end at the sidewalk along Sarah Lane. Line-up begins at 5:45 p.m. There will be a parachute launch at the end of the parade, treat bags will be handed out, and refreshments available. There will be a free concert at the park by the band, Rain, Saturday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Food vendors will also be set up in the park until about 10 p.m.

On Sunday, July 4 in Haysville, The Independence Day Parade will begin on Grand Avenue at the old Senior Center and end at the old Haysville Middle School. The event begins at 9 a.m. and is being sponsored by the Haysville Chamber of Commerce. Activities throughout the day will be an All-American Fishing Derby at Riggs Pond, Frog Races, Raft Races, and more. In Hutchinson, HutchFest 2011 began at 9 a.m. Friday and will run through about 10 p.m. Monday, July 4. HutchFest is being held at the Carey Park & Fairgrounds. It is a community celebration of the 4th of July. A $4 button is required for some of the events. The Patriots Parade begins at 10 a.m. on Monday and will head down Avenue B to 12th Street. Hutchfest activities include paintball, puppet shows, food eating contests, a car show, family swim night and more. Event hours vary day by day.
