Young Kansas hunters 10 to 16 years old are being invited to apply to participate in the fifth annual youth turkey hunt at Clinton Lake on April 2.
Participants will be drawn from a pool of applicants to hunt in an area that is usually closed to hunters. The Lawrence Journal-World reports the young hunters will need to have a special permit and be assisted by an adult mentor.
The event is sponsored by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and the National Wild Turkey Foundation. It's intended to help youngsters become interested in turkey hunting in an ethical manner.
Applications are available online and at the Corps of Engineers visitor center at Clinton Lake.
